A tribute to the Groningen-fans
I have to thank all of you Groningen-fans for fantastic support after me signing for Fulham. I know that I disappoint some of you when I left the club. But I felt it was right for me to move on now. I have always had a dream of playing in England again, and when I got the chance now – I felt I had to take it.
I was at Manchester United in the beginning of my career, but I was young then, and it was difficult getting the right chances at such a big club. Now I got the chance for a return to the Premier League – and as I have said before – I think this was my last chance for a return to English football.
I have had three fantastic years at Groningen. I came to a club I didn’t knew too much about. But I have learned a lot during my time in the north of the Netherlands. I felt like being home from the beginning – and I have to thank the Groningen-fans for making my time in the Netherlands fantastic.
It was in many ways tough for me leaving Groningen – although I was sure that I had to take this challenge, signing for Fulham. I am 30 years old – and I felt this was the right moment to move on when Fulham with my former boss Roy Hodgson turned up.
So until we meet again - in the UEFA-cup:-)
Cheers!
Erik
